Public Radio Tech Survey

Jacobs Media Techsurvey 8

Thanks for your interest in participating in Jacobs Media's Techsurvey 8.

Techsurvey 8This is the eighth year for this survey – a national web poll about media and technology utilizing radio station databases. And this year, we’re embarking on something very exciting – we are opening up the survey to all formats. In this way, we can take something that has become an integral set of analytics for Rock Radio, and we’re offering participation to stations across the U.S. from a wide variety of formats.

The results of this year’s survey will be presented at the WorldWide Radio Summit in Los Angeles – April 27-28.

Topics include traditional media usage (TV, radio), as well as new media (YouTube, Hulu, Facebook, Twitter, etc.), and gadgets (smartphones, tablets, etc.). Additionally, the survey will cover station related activities – Facebook pages, streaming, podcasts, etc. In Techsurvey8, we will drill even deeper into social media and mobile – areas that really matter to broadcasters. We will also continue our in-depth look at Pandora, as well as services like Groupon and Living Social.

The goal of this study is to provide radio with a media usage hierarchy – which we depict in the form of “pyramids” – that illustrate the media and gadgetry your listeners use, and the degree to which they use them.

Here are some quick notes about participating in the survey:

  • Jacobs Media handles all details of the study, and supplies email copy and all technical aspects of participation. The study will be fielded in late January.

  • Please use the sign-up for below and fill it out for each radio station you would like to have participate.  If you have a large number of stations (more than 5) you would like to register, please contact Lisa Riker directly via email or call her at 248-353-9030

  • You have two options for participating in the survey:

    1. A small participation fee for local station data. We will survey your database (up to 400 completed interviews). You'll receive your local market data, the total survey data, your format data (if there are sufficient stations in your format that participate), and your station's media usage pyramid.  You will also be able to participate in a free webinar that reviews the key findings this spring.  Anyone from your station is eligible to attend.  Here are the rates for individual stations:

      Top 20 markets: $500
      Markets 21-50: $400
      Markets 51+: $300

    2. No fee. If you elect to not pay the fee, you can still participate in the study. While you will not receive local data or a media usage pyramid for your station, you will receive an infographic that summarizes the survey’s key national findings, as well as participation in the webinar.

Registration for Techsurvey 8 is closed.
